In India, many students can’t continue their studies only because of poor financial condition of their families. To help such students, Government of West Bengal offers many types of scholarships. The scholarships are meant for different educational standards of students and their family conditions in terms of financial support.

The department of West Bengal Minorities’ Development and Finance Corporation offers scholarships to students who belong to minority communities. There is a specified online portal for these scholarships. There is a specified website for WBMDFC scholarship schemes launched by the government. Last Date for Scholarship Application 2020-21: Extended!!!

Latest Updates : Last date of applying online for scholarships has been extended by the government up to 15th March 2021. The scholarships covered under this date are Pre-Matric, Post-Matric, MCM, TSP and SVMCM.

Types of scholarships:

Under WBMDFC Scholarship scheme, Government of West Bengal offers 5 different types of scholarships. These are given as under:

  1. Pre-Matric Scholarship
  2. Post-Matric Scholarship
  3. West Bengal Merit cum Means Scholarship
  4. Talent Support Stipend
  5. Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship

Pre-Matric Scholarship

Pre-Matric scholarship is a scholarship scheme launched for the students studying from class 1 to class 10. For a student to be eligible for Pre-Matric scholarship scheme, one should fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Student should be a West Bengal Domicile.
  2. Family income of the student should not exceed beyond Rs. 2 lakhs.
  3. Student should be studying in a school or institute recognized by a state education board or a state university or a central university.
  4. Student should have secured atleast 50% marks in his/her previous class.
  5. Students of schools outside West Bengal are not eligible for Pre-Matric and Post-Matric scholarship.

Post-Matric Scholarship

Eligibility conditions for Post-Matric scholarship are given below:

  1. Student should be a West Bengal Domicile.
  2. Family income of the student should not exceed beyond Rs. 2 lakhs.
  3. Student should be studying in a school or institute recognized by a state education board or a state university or a central university.
  4. Student should have secured atleast 50% marks in his/her previous class.
  5. Students of schools outside West Bengal are not eligible for Pre-Matric and Post-Matric scholarship.

Merit cum Means Scholarship

  1. Student should be a resident of West Bengal state.
  2. Student should have taken admission in a technical or professional course.
  3. Students should have secured at least 50% marks or grade in his higher secondary examinations or in his last graduation examinations.
  4. If the student is studying outside West Bengal, then he can be eligible for this scholarship if his institute is listed under West Bengal Minorities’ Development and Finance Corporation department.
  5. Family income of the student from all sources should not exceed Rs. 2.5 lakhs.

Talent Support Stipend (TSP)

  1. Student should have secured at least 50% marks in his previous examinations.
  2. This scholarship scheme is for students studying from class 11 to up to Ph. D. level courses.
  3. Student should have taken admission in a regular course.
  4. Annual total family income of the student should not be more than Rs. 2 lakhs.
  5. 30% quota of this scholarship fund is reserved for girl students.

SVMCM Scholarship

  1. The applicant should be a student of class 11th or 12th or any other technical, medical or professional course.
  2. Scholarship will be given to the students on merit basis.
  3. Total family income of the student should be less than Rs. 2.5 lakhs.
  4. Students of M. Phil and Doctoral courses are also eligible for this scholarship scheme.

How to apply for WBMDFC Scholarship Scheme Online:

WBMDFC scholarship.gov.in 2021 application: For applying online for the WBMDFC scholarship, first students have to register themselves on the online portal of WBMDFC scholarships. Steps for applying for scholarship are given as under:

New Registration 2020-2021

  1. For New Registration of scholarship click here or click on the button “New Registration” in top right corner of official website home page.
  2. After this a new page will be opened.
  3. Here select the district of your institute or the place where your institute is situated.
  4. Once you select the district and click OK, a new page will open.
  5. From here student registration starts.
  6. Fill in the student registration details like domicile state, domicile district, block/municipality.
  7. Fill in student information such as Student name, father’s name, mother’s name, gender, religion, date of birth, mobile number, savings bank account number, Bank IFSC Code and captcha code.
  8. Click on submit and proceed.
  9. After this complete your scheme eligibility details and complete your registration.
  10. After completing student registration you will get User Name and Password for student login.

Student Login

The last date for minority scholarship 2020-21 has been extended up to March 15, 2021.

Who are eligible for minority scholarship?

The basic requirement for being eligible for minority scholarship is that the student should belong to a minority community i.e. Buddhist, Christian, Jain, Muslim, Parsee and Sikh listed under state government. Other requirement of eligibility vary from scholarship to scholarship which are explained above.

What is the amount of post matric scholarship?

What is the minimum income for scholarship?

There is no cap on the minimum income of the family to be eligible for the scholarship. Maximum income of the family should be less than Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 2.5 lakhs depending on type of scholarship. Complete details are given on the official website.
